ELDERS PLANNING AHEAD FOR DIGNIFIED, AUTONOMOUS, AGEING AT HOME.
A challenge for so many Australians
Many individuals and elders in Australia delay preparing for ageing healthily and autonomously at home. This can stem from a number of factors, including: a stigma concerning ageing; a realistic and/or perceived fear of losing independence (mental, physical and or emotional); denial concerning current or future decline in health; lack of internet and digital tool confidence; a lack of clear understanding concerning complex medical, legal and financial processes and systems; a lack of literacy on the aged care system, and/or a lack of understanding of their fundamental rights. Additionally, preparation for ageing at home may only start once a crisis hits, as planning can often be associated with a social taboo. The result is that a significant proportion of Australians are left unprepared for entering this phase of their lives.
It is thus of paramount importance that individuals and elders have the opportunity for and are guided towards proactively planning for ageing at home.
'89% of Australians want to age at home, yet a critical lack of early planning and digital confidence is actively undermining their independence.'
– Benetas Ageing in Place White Paper, 2026
Born out of a deep passion, fundamental respect for the autonomy and dignity of elders and an inherent belief that ageing at home should be a beautiful journey, EPADAAH aims to meet the above challenge.
